Addional Notes:

Dr. John Latham has been called the “Father of Australian and New Zealand ornithology” due to the fact that he was the first to describe and name many Australian and New Zealand birds. The General History of Birds was an expansion of Latham's earlier work, General Synopsis of Birds. The General History has become Latham's most well known work and contained 193 plates in all. Latham is widely believed to have done all of the art for his work himself.
